"Milk" coming to a theater near you in November

One of the tragedies of United States society is that we are known around the world as a homophobic nation....and rightly so. There is such a horrible legacy passed down in this country from one generation to another that fosters hatred and fear of homosexuals. In the movie "Milk", we see Anita Bryant equating homosexuals with prostitutes and thieves. Click on this preview to see a glimpse of a movie that might change America.

Harvey Milk (1930-1978) was an activist and politician, and the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in America; in 1977, he was voted to the city supervisors’ board of San Francisco. The following year, both he and the city's mayor George Moscone were shot to death by another city supervisor, Dan White. Mr. Milk was previously the subject of the Academy Award-winning documentary feature "The Times of Harvey Milk," but "Milk" is the first non-documentary feature to explore the man's life and career.

You can read about Harvey Milk in "The Mayor of Castro Street" by Randy Schilts. This should be taught in our schools....in every history class, but it still is not a subject that children learn about as part of their curriculum. They finally started teaching about Martin Luther King and black history so there is hope that this will finally make it into our schools where children will learn (in spite of their parents) that gay rights are everyone's rights.
