Trick? or Treat???

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

The Countess has gone to South Beach for Halloween the past two years and I want to wish all my friends there a great big "TRICK OR TREAT!". I miss you all and hope to see you soon.

This year I will be one of the judges at the Rumpy's Tavern Halloween Party. Big Prizes will be given out at midnight! Hope to see all my Berkshire friends out and about tonight. Rumor has it that my vote can be bought for Glenlivet.

Bye, Bye Michael Allen Lowe...I knew you when...

Saturday night was the farewell dinner party for the famous artist, Michael Allen Lowe. He is moving to Hollywood to become a big Stah!
Yes, You my dear. Don't look so surprised!
The Countess had recorded him at one of his gigs at Rumpy's Tavern and gifted him with a DVD of his performance. He can use it for an audition tape...LOL!
Ah, yes.....we can say "I knew him when...."

Adam and Scott's Wedding Shower!

Adam and Scott are getting married in November and their friends decided to throw them a wedding shower last Saturday. The lovely party hostesses were "The Betty Crockerettes"....

These three wonderful ladies cooked up a feast and organized the whole party....complete with pins like this one which Adam wore......

There were many beautiful gifts to open but a lot of them were booze....does that say something about our happy couple? They can now whip up professional martinis and margaritas for all their guests.

Tony the Stripper made a surprise appearance. Even The Countess got a lap dance!!

The Countess won a fabulous gift basket in the raffle but I gave it to Adam and Scott to enjoy.
I can't wait for the wedding! The cake says it all.....

If you haven't had a chance to congratulate them yet, come to the big Halloween extravaganza at Rumpy's Tavern located at The Village Inn in Lenox on Friday night. Madam Adam will be giving Tarot card readings and Scott will join The Countess and the Queen of the Bar as costume judges. There are lots of great prizes to be won; so dress up and come join us!!

One party after another.....

Friday night I drove into the Berkshires and when I took Exit 2 into Lee, I had a choice. Right towards home ..... or left towards Michael's in Stockbridge. I hadn't seen Susan, the Friday night bartender at Michael's, for awhile so I turned left and headed down Rte 102.

Susan and I caught up on our lives, she served me a couple of Glenlivet's, and I was off.

Fully intending to go to my place and settle in, I was passing the Unicorn Theatre and decided to pop into the box office and see who was on duty. Sir Stew, First Knight of the Berkshires, and I needed to arrange a top secret meeting about some high level affairs of state that had to be taken care of and I thought I might catch him at work.....And there he was. But he was a very bad influence and convinced me to conduct the meeting at Rumpy's Tavern. It all went downhill from there.....

Prince Troy was looking very dashing in his spooky tie.....

And Steve B was there looking to cause a little trouble!!

Next thing I knew, we were at the North House party......

Stew, Michael, Vickie, Sunshine, and Kerry were keeping things lively....

Beautiful Vickie was visiting from NYC for the weekend. The Countess always enjoys seeing her and hearing about her adventures.....

At one point Steve L tried to lock us out, I think......

That must have been when The Countess got out of control and started to lick Michael's chest!

OMG! The poor kid must be traumatized for life!!! The Countess duBarry would have never allowed this...."Not fitting behavior for a Countess", she would say. I can hear her now.
So that is how the weekend started. It was supposed to be a quiet night because there were TWO parties on the social calendar for Saturday night.... Adam and Scott's wedding shower and then Michael Allen Lowe's going away party. But The Countess has amazing powers of recovery and I will report on both of those fun parties tomorrow.

Castle Cleaning and other ruminations...

The Countess spent the past few days at the Castle Bedelia getting things in order after being away at the Summer Palace. It is amazing how things can get into a mess. The servants have something to answer to!!!! There was the general cleaning and sorting. Too bad we didn't have Cinderella to take care of things.

Because I was missing my own personal Cinderella, I took the best little grandaughter in all the world to see Cinderella, the Ballet, at the Wang Theatre in Boston.

What a magnificent production! We especially liked when Cinderella was delivered to the Ball in her beautiful pumpkin coach. She descended from the ceiling in her pumpkin coach and the audience went wild!!!

We loved the ballet and enjoyed the evening. As usual with this over the top Granny, we go from ballet to burlesque in one fell swoop....

Tonight I finally got to see 'Naked Boys Singing' on Here!TV. I've always just missed it in NYC. What a fun and poignant production. It takes some guts to get out on the stage completely naked and sing and dance. It probably shouldn't....but it does. I was just in a discussion with my granddaughter about nudity and why it causes problems sometimes. It seems to me that the USA is so negative on sexuality, nudity, and freedom of expression. It is like we are still held to Victorian morality. I'm sure there are many professional studies about this but IMO it's just all bullshit. In the end we are all bodies; we all have the same parts....what is shameful in the freedom of expression of the human body?

But I like this Shelley Winters quote:

"I think on-stage nudity is disgusting, shameful and damaging to all things American. But if I were 22 with a great body, it would be artistic, tasteful, patriotic and a progressive religious experience."

hmmmm....wouldn't we all, at 22?

Holiday Weekend in the Berkshires - Act Two

Sunday morning the sun was shining and it was a perfect fall day in New England. The foliage colors were peaking and the tourists were out in full force.

Luckily The Countess knew that the best place to start the day was at Moe's Tavern in Lee. It was the one year birthday celebration for the Tavern.....otherwise known as the Moezapalooza!!!! Josh Cohen, the owner of the Tavern, put on a fantastic birthday party!

Josh was giving out lots of prizes including t-shirts....

The Countess won a t-shirt!!!!!

Peter Barry, otherwise known as the late Countess duBarry, showed up for the festivities....

The Countess promised this beautiful couple that she would post their picture on the blog.....

Gray and Travis posed for a picture with The Countess (who was actually drinking one of the two hundred beers offered at Moe's) before heading off to the BTF Fall Foliage celebration....

The Berkshire Theatre Festival Fall Foliage Celebration was the final party for this year by the theater......A ride on the Stockbridge train to Lee and Lenox and back....Which was the perfect place to view the foliage, meet and mingle with other theater people, and maybe have a Glenlivet or two! Rolfe was entertaining the crowd at the Stockbridge Station.

The Crown Prince of the Berkshire Theatre, Sir Alex Hill, posed with The Countess....

Our happy bartenders on the train, Andrew and Travis, gave a big high five!!

The Royal Couple of the Berkshire Theatre, Kate Maguire and Eric Hill, were sitting right across the aisle.....

At the bar, Andrew, Travis, and Steve were guarding the Glenlivet....

After the train ride we all went over to the Unicorn Theatre for a fantastic performance by Judy Kaye and David Green. A really wonderful time was had by all!!!

Then some of us headed over to Rumpy's Tavern to finish the night off. Liz ended up being the Magician's assistant.....

And good friends posed for a picture among the spooooooky decorations.....

So ends our Holiday Weekend in the Berkshires!! There might have been a party or two that we didn't cover here but what happens in the Berkshires....Stays in the Berkshires!

"Milk" coming to a theater near you in November

One of the tragedies of United States society is that we are known around the world as a homophobic nation....and rightly so. There is such a horrible legacy passed down in this country from one generation to another that fosters hatred and fear of homosexuals. In the movie "Milk", we see Anita Bryant equating homosexuals with prostitutes and thieves. Click on this preview to see a glimpse of a movie that might change America.

Harvey Milk (1930-1978) was an activist and politician, and the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in America; in 1977, he was voted to the city supervisors’ board of San Francisco. The following year, both he and the city's mayor George Moscone were shot to death by another city supervisor, Dan White. Mr. Milk was previously the subject of the Academy Award-winning documentary feature "The Times of Harvey Milk," but "Milk" is the first non-documentary feature to explore the man's life and career.

You can read about Harvey Milk in "The Mayor of Castro Street" by Randy Schilts. This should be taught in our schools....in every history class, but it still is not a subject that children learn about as part of their curriculum. They finally started teaching about Martin Luther King and black history so there is hope that this will finally make it into our schools where children will learn (in spite of their parents) that gay rights are everyone's rights.

Holiday weekend in the Berkshires - Act One

On Friday night, Tony Lee Thomas was playing at Rumpy's Tavern in Lenox. Everyone knows that The Countess adores Tony Lee and he is such a fantastic entertainer that the place was packed.....

Adam was in town and we had a chance to catch up on his wedding plans. Adam and his partner, Scott, are getting married next month!!!

Later Sir Stew, First Knight of the Berkshires, came in to invite The Countess to a party....

Liz and Steve moved into an adorable little house and were having a housewarming. Karaoke was the entertainment of the evening. Liz is a stah......

Gray took over the microphone and wouldn't let go !!

Even Sir Stew belted out a couple of tunes. And danced too from the looks of this picture...

The other host of the party, Steve, was relaxing on the couch with a pair of SuperModels....

On Saturday the Countess duBarry went to Canyon Ranch to get beautified. I have no comment on the results.....

I snuck in and took a picture of her getting a cucumber facial.....

Is she winking at me????

That night, after a delicious dinner at Asters, we went to the Barrington Stage Company in Pittsfield to see "To Kill a Mocking Bird" starring David Adkins, Debra Jo Rupp (from that 70's show), and many other fine actors.

It was WONDERFUL!!! Get over to see it if you can. It is playing until October 26th.
Sunday's adventures are in Act Two. Enjoy the intermission!
