R.I.P. Elizabeth Taylor

All day I have felt out of sorts...that is such an old fashioned way of saying that you are upset about something, but that is exactly how I have felt all day .... just not quite right.  When I clicked on the news this morning and heard that Elizabeth Taylor had passed away, it kind of hit me in the gut.  Like a family member had died.  So strange.

I never met Elizabeth, didn't know her other than her publicity and movies.  Yet I identified with her all my life.  She was 10 years older than me so perhaps her life experiences seemed to lead mine...I don't know.  I didn't have all the husbands that she did, although I might have if I remember a quote from her..."I've only slept with men I've been married to. How many women can make that claim?"

When I was 10, she was 20...my heroine in National Velvet and now married AND divorced from Nicky Hilton.  She was the most beautiful woman in the world.

When I was in my 30's, my friends would call me 'their own Elizabeth Taylor'.  How I loved that comparison.  I was looking for some pictures from that time earlier today but they are not on my laptop or my Photobucket account.  I wish that my friends today who have only known me as an older woman with silver hair could have seen me back then with my black curls and dramatic ways.  Oh wait, maybe they can see it :)))  The dramatic ways haven't changed at all.

But Elizabeth Taylor wasn't only a pretty face; she made a difference. After finding out that her good friend, Rock Hudson, was dying of Aids.....then a relatively unknown disease, she embraced the cause.  Her activism is legendary and her compassion has left a legacy that will live on long after her movies and personal fame have faded.  She has been an inspiration to me all my life.

So today I shed a few tears for Elizabeth.  R.I.P.

The Countess Custom Jewelry

I guess this makes it official..."The Countess" is now cast in silver!  A very unique jewelry house, Caja Jewelry, specializes in beautiful handcut designs.  They recently designed custom name necklaces in gold for the 2011 Sports Illustrated swimsuit models which were prominently featured in that edition.... And they designed one for me in silver....

And then they took on the challenge of a cuff bracelet....

You can read about the process in their blog here.

I am now even more sparkly than ever.  Thank you, Andrea and Juan.
