The Busman's Holiday

Where has the time gone? It has been awhile since I posted a blog. Since I returned to the Castle Bedelia after spending the summer in the beautiful Berkshires, life has been all about catching up with work and family and nothing too exciting has been going on. But that is about to change! It is back to the Berkshires this coming weekend and then off to New York City for a week of fun.

Looking back in the meantime, I was reminded of a Thursday night in August at Rumpy's Tavern when it seemed that some of the bartenders from other bars in the area came in for a night of karaoke. In the old days we called this a 'busman's holiday'..... in which the person spends his or her vacation time doing the same activities as he or she does for a living.

The night started with an introduction to PJ, a really funny guy who apparently runs a website for a living from his farm. You just never know who you will meet at Rumpy's Tavern!! He turned out to be an old friend of Steve.....

and also of Davo. Here is PJ singing a song in honor of Davo's 50th birthday. Jasmine was joining in on the fun.....

Robby performs at Rumpy's on a regular basis and also runs the Sunday night Open Mike and here he is singing karaoke on a Thursday night. Again, on a busman's holiday, LOL.....

Melissa, the Friday night bartender at Michael's of Stockbridge, came in to sing a couple of songs......

Laura and Becca from Moe's Tavern in Lee came in to hear Chris sing.....

Chris was wearing a shirt advertising his favorite beverage....and you can find about 200 varieties of beer at Moe's.....

Justina bartends at Firefly down the street......

And even Brianne, the Saturday night 'singing bartender' at Michael's, showed up at the end of the evening.....

Rumpy's Tavern seems to be the place to be on a Thursday night!! You can even find them on Facebook now. Become a fan and you won't miss out on any of the fun!

RIP, Patrick Swayze

Patrick Swayze died today....the passing of an icon.

Dirty Dancing put him on the map....

but talent and charisma kept him there. He will always be a sex symbol to The Countess....a class act, married to the love of his life, Lisa, and never a silly scandal to his name. In this day of insane media, how many can say the same.

9/11/01 Remembering my friends....

Photo taken in Jersey City, overlooking the Hudson River, 11:30 pm September 11, 2009 by the very talented photo/videographer, Russ Turk.

Since I started this blog I have posted a remembrance of Janis Lasden and Dom Ditullio on this day. The statistics say that 2,823 were killed in the Twin Towers and in the aircrafts on 9/11/01 but 2 of that number have names and faces that meant something to me. They were on their way to a vacation in Palm Springs that beautiful September day.....perfect flying weather.

I met them both at the Village Inn back in the day when country line dancing was so popular. We were part of a group that showed up faithfully several nights a week to dance and socialize. That was long before I took pictures everywhere I go and I often wish I had a picture of Jan and Dom dancing. They would twirl around the floor looking like the country version of Fred and Ginger.

I hope they are dancing still......
