The Siege of South Beach - Day 2
The boys had me out dancing til 3 in the morning the night before; so it was a reasonable expectation that I would sleep until noon. The Countess duBarry crept out of the Castle at some ungodly hour when roosters were still crowing. She was on a mission to buy hats. When she returned, just as my servants were serving my breakfast, she had a wagon full of hats, ribbons, flowers, and other accessories. Soon the whole Castle had been turned into a Hat Shoppe! Countess duBarry is the most creative person I know.

While duBarry was gluing, sewing, and fussing over the hats, I had my carriage take me to Lincoln Road. There was a certain jewelry store that was calling my name. They had the perfect necklace to go with the beautiful silk gown that I would be wearing that evening. duBarry had asked me to pick up a few grocery items...I did manage to get her a ham sandwich and she should have been greatful for that...hmmmpf!
And then we were off for the evening soiree.....

First, as always, drinks at The Palace....

Once again Mrs. Astor tried to challenge me to a Duel of the Jewels. However, duBarry was quick to note that she was wearing one of the door knobs from the Men's Room at the Castle Bedelia.....stolen, no doubt, on a previous visit. Very clever, Mrs. Astor.....but door knobs are disqualified from the competition.

The beautiful Susie was behind the bar that night.

And Mr. and Mrs. Astor make an adorable couple.

More fun at The Palace....

The highlight of the evening was to be introduced to Henrietta, the Queen of South Beach Society. Mrs. Astor has been singing her praises for so long that I was almost speechless when I met her (and everyone can tell you that I am seldom speechless....LOL!). It was a true honor to be presented to her.

When we walked into Twist that night, Henrietta announced in a very grand manner: "The Queen and the Countess are here!" Everyone gathered to pay homage to her. I was honored to be by her side. One of my most memorable moments in South Beach. Then we proceeded to dance the night away!

Henrietta's quote of the night; "You know, it's scary with all these people voting for this Obama. My god, if they vote him in, they're all going to think they're kings!".
