It is Sunday morning at the Palace and The Countess was enjoying her morning coffee while she perused her favorite blogs.....then WHAM! POW! ......she was tagged by her friend, The South Beach Bum. For this she is supposed to thank him????

The instructions read like a first grade primer:

1.Pick up the nearest book.
2.Open to page 123.
3.Locate the fifth sentence.
4.Post the next three sentences on your blog and in so doing...
5.Tag five people, and acknowledge who tagged me.



Because The Bum is a special friend of mine, how can I refuse to play? So I grab the nearest book....which, since everyone knows how much I like my Glenlivet, just happens to be:

But there were no page numbers in the cartoon book, never mind three sentences; so I grabbed the next book and came up with one of my treasures, "Edith Wharton, An Extraordinary Life".





On Page 123...


"!!!!!!!Seven minutes from your door we were in a ditch, & hiring a local "team" to pull us out!!!!! As Cook remarked: "It never rains but it pours over this way!"


Still, it was not very bad, though I could not resist this sensational beginning."



Faithful readers of my blog know that I love all things "Berkshire" and Edith Wharton's home "The Mount" is only a short distance from the Summer Palace. It is being restored to its former greatness but the foundation is fighting bankruptcy. Hopefully the restoration will continue.
