Another opening, another show......
Once again Our Hit Parade at Joe's Pub delivered an evening of fabulous entertainment. I don't know how they fit so much fun into one night. The Countess even managed to get on stage for an impromptu emcee session :) Several friends joined me for the night and even though I forgot to take the group picture, I did snap Halley and John up on stage playing "What's in your diaper?". I'm sure it was an evening they won't forget!!!
Thank you Bryce, Catherine, Bobby, Halley, John, Matt, Travis, and Phillip for coming to the party. And always, Thanks to my dear friend Jenn Harris for performing so brilliantly as Pink and then coming to hang out with us.
Later that night on my way back to the hotel I got in my very first New York City Taxi Cab accident! Just a fender bender with another cab....and The Countess is fine....but listening to 2 cabbies swear at each other in 2 different languages was an experience!! Lesson learned. Wear your seatbelt in a cab.
I woke up on Thursday to a raging snow storm outside my window. It stormed all day and night but that didn't stop The Countess from heading downtown to the Mercury Lounge to meet up with Joe and Jessi Blue....
We were there to listen to some great music from the Holy Ghost Tent Revival. This fabulous band was rockin' and rollin' and jumpin' all over the stage. I danced up a storm. Too much fun!
And BONUS! The first band to come on was Megan McCormick. This little gal is a powerhouse! I am her newest fan. Check out her music. She can play a guitar with the best of them. Five Stars from The Countess for Megan.
Friday was shopping at Macy's where I found a killer outfit for South Beach. You have to be stylin' when you are strolling down Ocean Drive....or at least when Mrs. Astor is in the room! Then off to the theater to see "Next Fall", a very poignant story of a gay couple told in flashbacks after a horrific accident. Get your kleenex out; you will need it with this one.
Finally the big night arrived. My best pals Daiva, Matt, and Travis met up with me for a little pre-theater dinner....
And then it was Opening Night for the Red Bull Theater production of "Duchess of Malfi". I am a big fan of this theater company and have so many friends who either work on the productions or act in them. Erin Lunsford did the wigs and hair designs, Scott Killian (who works on so many Berkshire productions) did the music, Nathan Leigh did the sound, and the special guests that night included John Douglas Thompson who recently awed New York with his portrayal of "Emperor Jones". Many other celebrities were in the audience and at the after party. It really was like an old home week for The Countess and I enjoyed seeing so many friends that night.
Travis took a picture of the cake...
Later Matt, Travis, and I went over to the Ritz Bar to see Giovanni at the bar and JonJon Battles DJing up a storm on the dance floor.
Just a few memories and the reason that I.Love.New York City!!
