Happy Easter
This beautiful Ukrainian Easter Egg (pysanka) was handcrafted by Kristin. She gave me the egg as a gift on the occasion of my first visit to the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. I'll always treasure both the egg and the memory of our time at the Met.
In the folk life of Ukrainian people, the pysanka possess talismanic powers. Receipt of a pysanka is not only a token of friendship or esteem but also brings with it protection from harm. Ukrainian ancestors believed that pysanky in the home would bring good fortune, wealth, health, and protection from lightning and fire.
I haven't disarmed the alarm system in the Castle Bedelia yet but I feel safer with my beautiful egg in a place of honor in the dining room hutch :)
Later today I will be playing luau with the Baby Countesses. We have a limbo pole, flowered leis, heart shaped sunglasses, and headbands with bobbing flamingos. How much fun can one Countess have?
Happy Easter to all my readers!
