A night at the theater in Boston.....
My friend, Davo, is the Box Office Manager for Boston Symphony Orchestra. So when he invited me to meet him at 'the office', I jumped at the chance. I got a back stage look at the BSO box office where Davo reigns supreme, sat in on a BSO rehearsal, and that was all before we went out to dinner and the theater!!
The occasion was to see "Becky Shaw" at the Huntington Theatre Company. I had met Keira Naughton a few years ago at the Berkshire Theatre Festival and we have shared many a karaoke night and after hours party together. There was no way she was performing in Boston without me going into town to see her. The fact that she is friends with Davo sealed the deal....small planet that this theater world is.
Gina Gionfriddo is a 2009 Pulitzer Prize finalist for 'Becky Shaw' which has been described as “a blind date gone bad in this tale of love, sex, and ethics about thirty somethings.”. Keira, Seth Fisher, Eli James, and Wendy Hoopes (as Becky Shaw) were so much fun to watch, laugh with, and cry with...and Maureen Anderman, as the mother, was magnificent. (Maureen being another BTF alumni, performing in Noel Coward's "Suite in Two Keys" a couple of years ago).
Davo and I met Keira backstage.....
And then we all went out to the Eastern Standard in Kenmore Square for some food, drink, and conversation.....
The House sent over shots of their signature cocktail, Casablanca, for us to enjoy at the end of the evening....
Keira will be starring as Lady MacBeth in "the Scottish play" at Berkshire Theatre Festival this summer. Can't wait!!!!
